Body found near Beauty Spot

According to Unicoi County Sheriff's Department officials, the body of a hiker was found around 2 p.m. on the Appalachian Trail near Beauty Spot in Unicoi County on Saturday, Oct. 11.
In a phone interview Saturday evening, Sheriff Mike Hensley said the male victim, which authorities suspect to be from Ohio, appeared to have died from natural causes.
“We don't know if he had a heart attack or what,” Hensley said. “The body has been sent for an autopsy. … No foul play is suspected at this point.”
The name of the man has not yet been released by authorities, as they are still working to positively identify the victim.
Hensley did say investigators believe the man left his vehicle at a hostel in Carter County and was taxied to Unicoi County to hike. He also said another hiker found the body Saturday afternoon and contacted authorities.
