Board of Education recognizes retirees

The Unicoi County Board of Education and Director of Schools Denise Brown honored a special group of individuals during its regular board meeting on Thursday, Aug. 8. “It’s always an honor to recognize our retirees, but it is also always a little sad for me,” Brown said. “I have had an opportunity to work with each of these individuals … They have done so much for our students. “I am very happy for you,” Brown said to the retirees. “But I am sad for our school system because we are losing some great people.”
Retirees recognized during the meeting were: Evelyn Dwyer, Brenda Garland, Fred Hatcher, Libby Hatcher, Rebecca Love, Leisa Oaks, Martha Silvers, Paulette Watts and Debbie Wilson. “We appreciate the years you’ve put in,” Board Chairperson Renea Jones-Rogers said. “There have been
lives changed by you being involved in our school system.” The retirees also reflected on their years of service to the school system.
