Board hears from police chief on synthetic drug issue

Synthetic drugs were addressed by Chief of the Erwin Police Department Regan Tilson and the town
of Erwin at the Board of Mayor and Alderman meeting on March 12. Before the board considered a resolution to encourage the Tennessee General Assembly to move on banning the sale, use and
possession of all synthetic drugs, Chief Tilson said he was happy to report that, “We currently have no one selling synthetic products in our town.” He also told the board that he has been working with local youth groups and churches to create awareness of the effects of synthetic drugs.

“We have several more scheduled,” he said. “I’m coordinating with the high school to do a video that
will be played for a week.” The board acknowledged this information. “People are dying from it,” said Vice Mayor Glenn Tilson. “It’s not worth it to die for that.”
