Marsh Regional Blood Center is coming to Unicoi County Memorial Hospital on Monday, August 19th, from 8:00-2:00. As you may or may not know Marsh Regional Blood Center is blood bank that ensures that every hospital in our area has the blood it needs to treat our local friends, family and neighbors. The blood drive is open to the public and as always we are in need of blood and can use all the help we can get.
One interesting note about blood donation: most people dont realize the need for blood donation until a friend or family member is in the hospital and is in critical need. The unfortunate thing about this delayed realization is that it takes roughly 3 days for us to test and process the blood before it is ready to be released to the hospital. Whole blood has a shelf life of 42 days. There is no way to predict when catastrophe will strike and so the time to meet tomorrows need (well 3 days from now) is today.
