Arrests made of 19 individuals on alleged drug-related charges

Unicoi County Sheriff Mike Hensley said approximately 20 individuals were arrested on drug-related charges in a roundup occurring on Monday, Feb. 18, which began at 9 a.m.
“It’s been a good day for Unicoi County,” Hensley said.
Hensley said the operation stemmed from recent drug-related deaths in the county.
“We named it Operation Life Saver because that’s what it’s about — saving lives,” Hensley said. “We’ve had multiple overdose deaths because of prescription drugs.”
The arrests made on Monday were mainly centered around individuals who allegedly sold prescription pills, but Hensley said many other drugs were also involved in multiple undercover buys made by UCSD investigators.
“It focused on folks that were selling prescription pills throughout the county,” Hensley said.
“My investigators have done an outstanding job. Most of these folks have prescriptions for their medication and we have to make buys with these people undercover. We don’t make one buy, we make about four buys because it’s very crucial to show these folks are dealing with their prescription drugs.”
