This week the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Unicoi County kicks off the 2014 Relay For Life season. The local chapter is seeking volunteers to help on its 2014 steering committee.
Cancer survivors, those who have lost a loved one to cancer, families, businesses, faith-based and civic organizations, and anyone wanting to make a difference in the fight against cancer are invited to take part in this event.
It always takes a large number of people with diverse talents to make our events a success, said Cindy Lewis, Relay For Life event chair. In order for the American Cancer Society to finish the fight against cancer, we are looking for more. We need more people, more ideas, more feet on the track, to raise more money which will ultimately lead to more cures.
The Unicoi County group will hold a mixer for current and potential steering committee members at Erwin Town Hall on Thursday, Jan. 16, beginning at 6 p.m. This will give members of the public an opportunity to learn more about the event and how they can get involved.
