Apple Festival merchandise now available

The Unicoi County Chamber of Commerce debuted the 2015 Unicoi County Apple Festival merchandise last week.
Executive Director Amanda Delp said the Chamber is offering two types of festival shirts this year – one with a traditional design, the other with what Delp referred to as a specialty design.
“Each year, festival merchandise is a collector’s item for many,” Delp said.
For the 2015 specialty design, the Chamber turned to local artist Angelica Markland.
“We wanted and artsy, simplistic design,” Delp said. “We told Angelica what we wanted and she ran with it.”
Markland’s design, which appears on different styles of shirts, features an outline of the state of Tennessee. Inside the outline is text which showcases the variety of activities and places found in Unicoi County.
“I wanted the design to capture what we have here in Unicoi County,” Markland said.
Delp said she and the Chamber staff were immediately impressed with Markland’s design.
“When she brought the design to us, we all said, ‘Wow’,” Delp said.
For the traditional design, the Chamber turned to Tourism Director Dawn Edwards’ twin daughters, Alex and Ashleigh.
Delp said the Chamber asked the recent Unicoi County High School graduates to create a simple, artsy theme with apples.
“Ashleigh and Alex are talented artists,” Delp said. “They used watercolors to create a design of an apple tree that perfectly captures the essence of the Apple Festival.”
Both the traditional and specialty designs are available in a variety of colors and styles.
