Unicoi Countys heritage will be on display this weekend during the East Tennessee Area Pottery Show and Sale scheduled to be held at Unicoi County High School on Saturday, May 25. The 13th annual show will open at 8 a.m. and continue until 3 p.m.
We will have over 30 tables from several different vendors filled with all hand-painted pottery that was hand painted here in the Erwin, Tennessee area from both the past and the present, Cash Family Pottery Club President Rocky Tilson said. This show will feature pottery made in the past from Southern Potteries/Blue Ridge, Cash Family/Clinchfield Artware Pottery, Clouse Pottery, Mountford/Buffalo Artware Pottery, Cherokee China, Collins Pottery, Erwin Pottery by Negatha Peterson, Faye Clouse Pottery and Fritz Novelty.
Tilson also said potteries currently in operation will be vendors during Saturdays show. These include Albert and Betty Story from B & B Pottery, Christia Richardson from Christia's Hand Art Pottery and Gary and Patsy Smith from the New Erwin Pottery.
According to Tilson, pottery appraisals will be conducted during the show and W. Allison Burnette, Jr., the Cash Family Pottery Club vice president and author of the collectors guides Cash Family/Clinchfield Artware Pottery and The Collectors Guide to the Smaller Erwin, Tennessee Area Potteries will attend the show and sell copies of his books.
An auction is scheduled for 2 p.m., Tilson said.
