Amateur photographers invited to enter contest

The Erwin Record and the Unicoi County Chamber of Commerce invite amateur photographers to show off their “picture perfect” photos during the Unicoi County Apple Festival.
Again this year, the Record and the Chamber will join forces to sponsor the Apple Festival “Picture Perfect” photography contest.
“We have enjoyed collaborating with the Chamber to sponsor the photography contest during the festival,” Erwin Record Publisher Keith Whitson said. “We have also enjoyed showcasing the talent of our local photographers. And we are anxious to see the works of art that will be entered in this year’s contest.”
The contest gives amateur photographers the opportunity to show off their skills in six different categories. The categories are inanimate objects, people, animals, plants/flowers, landscapes and water scenes.
Contestants may enter one black and white photograph and one color photograph in each category. A panel of local photographers will award first-, second- and third-place ribbons in each category. A “Best of Show” ribbon will be selected from the first-place winners of each category.
The contest is restricted to amateur photographers only.
Entries must be an 8” x 10” print and fixed on a white 11” x 14” matte. Contestants should place their name, address, phone number and category on the back of each entry.
Entries submitted in photo frames or glass, or on a matte other than white will not be judged. All entries should be taken to the Unicoi County Chamber of Commerce, 100 S. Main Ave., or The Erwin Record, 218 Gay St., by Wednesday, Sept. 23.
The winning photographs will be displayed during the Apple Festival, on Oct. 2-3. All photographs and ribbons may be picked up at the Chamber the week after the Apple Festival.
“We are so excited to be a part of this contest again this year,” Chamber Executive Director Amanda Delp said. “There are so many talented photographers out there, and this is an excellent opportunity for them to show off their work in the community.”
