‘Ramps & Ruritans’ offers look at Flag Pond tradition

A film depicting the importance of the leek-like plant called the ramp to an annual tradition held in Flag Pond will be shown at the Flag Pond Ruritan Club meeting Tuesday, April 17, at 7 p.m. in the old Flag Pond School.
“Ramps & Ruritans: Tales of the Revered and Reeking Leek of Flag Pond, Tennessee” features 20 minutes of highlights from the Flag Pond ramp harvest of 2011, when two East Tennessee State University public relations staff members, Fred Sauceman and Larry Smith, followed along on two ramp digs in Flag Pond.
The film features local residents commenting on the tradition of the Ruritan Ramp Festival in Flag Pond, according to an ETSU press release about the film.
