November is the month of gratitude and we are grateful to have hosted around 60 special First Responders at the Unicoi County Public Library on Saturday evening, Nov. 12, for a chili dinner to warm some hearts and fill some bellies. These folks are such helpers that they even stayed to clean up afterward. We love them all so much.
In other library news, mark your calendars for a special event on Monday, Nov. 21, at 11:30 a.m. The public is invited to attend a brief ribbon cutting ceremony at Fishery Park. UCPL wrote a grant through the Governor's Early Literacy Foundation (the Imagination Library folks) to get our very own storybook trail in Unicoi County. It runs along the newest section of the Linear Trail and we hope it brings joy to a whole generation of families. Come out and support the happy marriage of literacy and nature in our county.Â
Other events coming up at your Unicoi County Public Library:
Wednesday, Nov. 16, from 2 to 5 p.m. Drop in for some creative writing time as this is NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). We'll have coffee and hot tea to help get you into a writing mood.Â
Thursday, Nov. 17, at 9 a.m. Mooove over, everyone! It is Agriculture Week and we have 4H visiting for Homeschool Enrichment. We'll be talking about all things farming related, so steer your way to the library... don't be a chicken! (Yes, I'm pretty punny.)Â
Friday, Nov. 18, at 10 a.m. Currently, we have the only Adult Special Needs Storytime in the region. Did you know your county was doing this? If you’d like a dose of pure joy, visit your library at this time and join us for crafts and stories. This very underserved group in our community is well worth the visit.
Saturday, Nov. 19, from 10 to 2 p.m. It’s book sale time! Every third Saturday of the month, we'll have the basement book sale open to local readers in search of some cozy reads.Â
