Even though Gov. Lee has said that senior centers may re-open, “if they follow protocols for safer socialization,” Clinchfield Senior Adult Center will remain closed through October. The CSAC Board of Directors feel that the protocols established by Gov. Lee and the TN Commission on Aging and Disability (TCAD) are so restrictive that the Center should remain closed until the Governor issues his next directive regarding senior centers and their reopening. When further directives are received, the board will again review the options for reopening the Center, taking into consideration the prevailing situation at the time involving COVID-19 and flu.
Medicare Open Enrollment runs from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7 each year. During this period, Medicare recipients have an opportunity to evaluate their current coverage and make changes that will affect their health care costs and coverage beginning in January of the following year. In the past, persons from the Area Agency on Aging have come to the Erwin senior center to personally assist members in comparing plans for coverage and premiums. Although it is not possible this year for them to come inside CSAC to assist seniors, AAAD is making arrangements to help people in other ways. Do not neglect to compare your plan with other plans because doing so could save you hundreds of dollars a year.
The center has received a fresh shipment of pecan pieces. (These are not the 2020 crop, which won’t be available for several weeks.) These are from a different company (same price, $11 per pound), and we would like to get some feedback about the quality of this brand from some of you who use a lot of pecans. Call before you come and pick up your order at the front entrance.
Clinchfield Senior Adult Center is located at 311 Union St., Erwin. The telephone number is 743-5111. Please call if we can assist you.
