As I prepare this article, the Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability is waiting for an official statement from the governor’s office. It is TCAD’s understanding, however, based on recent conversations with contacts in the governor’s office, “that it would be everyone’s preference that senior centers remain closed for the immediate future. More guidance is coming.”
Whenever senior centers do reopen, there will be some temporary restrictions at most centers, which are being discussed and will be announced prior to reopening. Wearing a face covering most likely will be one of the requirements, and it will be each individual’s responsibility to provide their own face covering.
The CSAC facility is being thoroughly cleaned and sanitized to provide a healthy environment for members when we do reopen. If you have underlying health conditions, please continue to follow Governor Lee and CDC guidelines and shelter in place.
Also, if you have not responded to your census survey, please do so by mail, phone or online. Doing so helps ensure that Tennessee and Unicoi County will get our fair share of federal funds and congressional representation.
Clinchfield Senior Adult Center is located at 220 Union St. in downtown Erwin and is closed until further notice. The usual hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The telephone number is 743-5111.
