Park offers informative Earth Day Hike

From Staff Reports

Join Intern Lauren Thompson at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park on Thursday, April 22, for an Earth Day Hike.

The hike, which is free and open to all participants, will begin at 2 p.m. This hike is limited to 10 participants and registration is required. To register, visit www.tnstateparks.com/parks/events/sycamore-shoals.

Thompson will use the guided hike to spotlight some of the outstanding trees during the walk along the Watauga River. Participants will learn how to recognize a tree with or without leaves, how our ancestors used the trees and other unique tree-related facts.

Experience the state park by learning basic hiking tips such as, what is good to pack for a day hike, avoiding poison ivy and what to wear on a hike. For those interested in learning something new or simply enjoying an easy hike, the Earth Day hike has something for everyone.

The park is located at 1651 W. Elk Avenue, Elizabethton. For more information, call (423) 543-5808.
