The 2021 Wayne Scott Strawberry Festival is scheduled for Saturday, May 15 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Unicoi Elementary School athletic field behind the Pavilion in Unicoi.
The vendor booth for Clinchfield Senior Adult Center will feature a variety of strawberry desserts such as strawberry shortcake, strawberry sundaes, strawberry cupcakes, strawberry pie and bottled water.
As much as possible, we plan to follow current public health guidelines to protect our staff, volunteers and customers. If you can volunteer to help in any way, please call the Senior Center to see if we need additional volunteers. Proceeds from the sales go toward operating expenses for our non-profit organization.
Now for some exciting news! As I prepare to submit this column, there is still no confirmed reopening date for the Center, but it won’t be too far in the future. When we do have a firm date, we will announce it as soon as possible.
However, I have just been informed by Human Resource Agency in Johnson City, who prepares Congregate and Home Delivered Meals for all senior centers in Northeast Tennessee, that Congregate lunches will resume on July 1, 2021. The lunches, which can be eaten in our dining room, will be served in sealed trays for at least one month. They currently have no other details about distancing or other recommendations. During the month of June, a daily hot lunch is still available as a drive-through pick up in the Senior Center parking lot by reservation with Nutrition Coordinator Judy Smith. Call (423) 330-6904 for details and reservations.
We have been in touch with many of our members and want you to feel free to contact us by calling (423) 743-5111 or by email at [email protected] if our staff can be of assistance to you or another senior. If there is no answer, leave a message and a staff person will return the call.
The Senior Center is accepting applications for a part-time custodian to work five days a week after business hours at $9.50 per hour. Call for more details.
Clinchfield Senior Adult Center is located at 220 Union Street in downtown Erwin and is closed to the public until further notice. The usual hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Telephone number is (423) 743-5111.
