‘Best of Unicoi County’ seeking nominations

By Richard Rourk

It’s time to once again celebrate the best of Unicoi County with a tradition that provides the community a sense of normalcy during an unprecedented year.

According to Unicoi County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Amanda Delp, the Best of Unicoi County Awards will return Feb. 25 to honor local businesses for 2020.

“This year is really special because of everything that happened in 2020,” Delp said. “I really think the impact of this year’s award will be felt years down the road. With the struggles of 2020, winners of this award can look back and say with all of the curveballs that 2020 handed us, we won the best of award. It is really something to be proud of.”

Delp and the Chamber are working hard to honor the businesses that fought through 2020. “This year was a challenging year for many businesses, so here is your chance to say thank you for weathering the storm, or for going that extra mile or just to simply say thank you for being a part of our community,” Delp said.

According to Delp, the deadline to nominate a business or individual for the Best of Unicoi County Awards is Wednesday, Feb. 17.

The Business categories include Large Business of the Year, Small Business of the Year, Professional Services, Non-Profit, Healthcare, and Hospitality/Tourism. The Individual categories include Educator of the Year and Distinguished Service to the Community.

Delp confirmed that the Best of Unicoi County Award winners will be announced on Feb. 25. “With COVID-19, we are doing the awards a little differently this year,” Delp said. “Winners will be announced on our Facebook page, and we are hoping to send one of our Chamber members to each location for the winners.”
