With the 2018 season in the books, the Unicoi County High School baseball team saw several of its members receive honors for their performances on the diamond.

Two Blue Devil seniors – Caleb Wilson and Clay Simpson – took top honors from the Three Rivers Conference. Wilson was named Player of the Year, while Simpson was named Pitcher of the Year.

Making the all-conference team were seniors Owen Nicholson, Hunter Higgins and Troy Podvin, and junior Brett Strother.

Making the District 1-AA all-tournament team were Wilson, Higgins and junior Keaton Casey.

The Blue Devils posted a 20-15 record in the 2018 season and won the Three Rivers Conference regular season championship. The team took second place in the District 1-AA tournament before being eliminated from postseason play by a loss to Greeneville.

Head coach Chad Gillis previously told The Erwin Record that he felt that the 2018 season was a successful one for his program.

“I feel like we had a good season,” he said. “We won 20 games and beat some really good teams along the way.”
