Bonnie Metcalf Shelton passed peacefully and gracefully on March 24, 2018, with her family by her side. She was born on April 25, 1922, to the late Hobert and Elizabeth Fox Metcalf. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Orie Shelton; brother Jesse Metcalf; daughter Hazel McReynolds; grandson James O. McReynolds; and great-granddaughter Suzanne Shelton. Bonnie is survived by her son Charles and his wife Jean; her sister Joan Paramore; her son-in-law James F. McReynolds; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Bonnie was born in Flag Pond, Tennessee, and later moved to the Hampton Roads area. She initially worked as a hairdresser and later for the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society. She retired after 18 years of service at the age of 88. Bonnie had two great passions: her family and her church. She was a faithful member of Poquoson Baptist Church. She will always be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who had an enthusiasm for serving others.

Services were held at Poquoson Baptist Church on March 28. Entombment followed at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton.

The family greatly appreciated the wonderful care provided by the medical and support staff at Sentara CarePlex Hospital in Hampton, including Dr. Gensler; Dr. Mohammed; the hospice staff, Sherri and Kimberly; and nursing staff, Amy, Lauren, and Sharon. Online condolences to claytorrollins.com .

“We will miss Bonnie dearly, but she leaves us rich with memories.”
