Eugene Rice -
Eugene Rice, age 78, 501 Ohio Avenue, Erwin, passed away Friday, January 23, 2015, in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident o f Unicoi County and a son of the late Parley F. and Edith Pate Rice. Mr. Rice retired in 2004 from Nuclear Fuel Services after forty-five years of employment. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Erwin, Flag Pond Masonic Lodge, a former member of the Erwin Jaycees and a former member of the Farm Bureau Board of Directors. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Maria Ellen Rice on January 16, 2011 and a sister, Linda Rice.
Janie Ray -
Janie Ray, 88 of Belcher, KY passed away Friday, January 23, 2015 at Pikeville Medical Center. Janie was born May 24, 1925 at Erwin, TN to the late Roby Alfred Vanover and Eula May Edna Vanover. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Brady Ray. Janie is survived by her brother, Clifton Vanover, Sr. and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 1-2PM Monday, January 26, 2015 at the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel, Elkhorn City, KY. Funeral services will be conducted at 2PM from the chapel with Hollis Ratliff & Kris Dills officiating.

Callie E. Riddle, age 86, of Erwin, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Johnson City Medical Center. Born on May 21, 1928 in Fort Blackmore, VA, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary White Gillenwater. She was a housewife and a member of Harvest Time Apostolic Church in Erwin.

David Harlan Effler, age 60, Erwin, TN, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2015. He was a native of Erwin and a son of Betty Randolph Effler of Erwin and the late Donald Effler. David had been employed by N N Ball & Roller and was a member of South Side Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to his father, David is preceded in death by a son: Jimmy Effler.

Dwayne Hargus, age 38, of Jefferson City, TN, born February 1, 1976, passed away on January 22, 2015. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Audrey West, and Carlos West; great-grandparents, Lela West and Bill West, Daisy Baysinger, Lloyd Baysinger, Dora Gilbert, and Boyd Hargus. He is survived by his mother, Karen West; father, John C. Hargus, Jr.; sister, Tonya Hargus; niece, Tabitha Carpenter; aunts, Donna Miles, and Wanda Orfield. Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Farrar Funeral Home with Rev. Carl Bryant officiating. Family and friends will gather at 1:45 p.m. Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Flat Gap Cemetery for a 2:00 p.m. graveside interment service. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.

Ricky Lynn Morrow, age 43, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2015 at the Johnson City Medical Center following a car accident on January 9, 2015 in Washington County, TN. Ricky attended Canah Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in his younger years and was baptized in 1980. He worked in construction as an iron worker for United States Nitrogen in Mosheim, TN.

Janell W. Bennett, age 79, of Erwin, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 18, 2015, surrounded by her family. A lifelong resident of Unicoi County, Mrs. Bennett was born on July 27, 1935 to the late Hilyard and Mary Jane Wilson. Janell was a woman of unwavering faith and belief in God. She enjoyed reading her bible and going to church with her sisters. Mrs. Bennett never missed an opportunity to give thanks to her Savior and to share His love with those around her. She took great pride in the accomplishments of her entire family, and loved visits from her nieces, nephews, and their children. She attended the Holiness Church. In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Bennett; three brothers, Ward, Paul, and Cecil Wilson; and one sister, Irene Wilson.

Barbara K. English, age 87, 750 Carolina Avenue, Erwin, passed away Monday, January 19, 2015 in the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care. She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Willie D. and Mamie Blankenship Shelton. Ms. English retired from Morrill Motors afte r twenty-six years of service. She was a member of Higgins Chapel Baptist Church. Other than her parents, Ms. English was preceded in death by her husband, Lester English on July 31,1993; a son, Freddie English on November 12, 2010; three brothers and six sisters.

Brandi Littleton Farley, 22, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 17, 2015, at Vanderbilt Medical Center. She was a lifelong resident of Kingsport and was a 2010 graduate of Sullivan South High School. Brandi loved gardening, cooking, animals, and caring for and nurturing her son.

Pleasey Sneyd, 94, 761 Lower Stone Mountain Road, Unicoi, passed away Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Sneyd was a lifelong resident of Limestone Cove in Unicoi County. Born Feb. 28, 1920, he was the son of the late Dave and Mary Sneyd. He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in England, Belgium, France and Germany. Mr. Sneyd was retired from Empire Furniture Company of Johnson City. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, family gatherings and traveling to visit family members. Mr. Sneyd was a life-time member and deacon of Limestone Cove Christian Church.

Angela Bradshaw, age 60, of Johnson City, passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2015, in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. She was a native of Johnson City and a daughter of the late Herbert J and Betty Joe McKinney Harris. Angela was employed by Johnson City Medical Center as an R. N. She was a member of Evergreen Free Will Baptist and attended First Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading, fishing, paddling and camping. In addition to her parents, Angela is preceeded in death by a brother: Mark Harris and cousin: Mitchell Bowman
Elsie Guinn Tolley -
Elsie Guinn Tolley, 87, 1008 Marbleton Road, Unicoi went home to be with the Lord, Monday, January 12, 2015 in the Unicoi County Hospital Long Term Care. She was a native of Mitchell County, NC and was a daughter of the late Luther and Nancy Jane Whitehead Guinn. Mrs. Tolley had worked for Industrial Garments, V.A Center and North American Rayon. She was a charter and founding member of the Fork Mountain Freewill Baptist Church in Roan Mountain. Mrs. Tolley was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved the Lord and her family. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.
William “Coy” Edwards -
William “Coy” Edwards, age 80, of Erwin, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Coy was a native of Bandana, NC and a son of the late William Rassie Edwards and Bunia Hampton Collins. Mr. Edwards served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He worked for South Side Oil Company and formerly attended Sweetwater Church of God. Coy loved to hunt and fish as well as enjoyed the outdoors. In addition to his parents, Mr. Edwards is preceded in death by his wife Marie Winslow Banner Edwards, sister Brenda Collins, brothers Harvey Collins, Sherman Collins, Dewey Collins, and Luther Arwood.

Glenna Sawyer Riley - of Saraland, AL passed away peacefully on January 10, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. She was 82 years old. Glenna was a treasure to many friends and family members. She will be greatly missed.

Dwight O. Shelton, age 89, 702 Ninth Street, Erwin, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015 in the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of U nicoi County and a son of the late Boney Z and Carrie Sparks Shelton. Mr. Shelton was a U. S. Army Veteran of WWII serving in Rhineland; Central Europe and was a recipient of the Purple Heart; European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two Bronze stars; Good Conduct Medal; Victory Medal; Distinguished Unit Badge with one Bronze Star; Silver Star Medal; Rifle Expert Medal; Combat Infantry Badge; and Parachute Medal. He was a member of Flag Pond Masonic Lodge #408 F&AM; the Jericho Shrine Temple; and the Scottish Rite. Mr. Shelton served as a Unicoi County Commissioner for several years and had served on the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital Board. He retired from Nuclear Fuel Services in 1987 after nineteen years of service. Mr. Shelton was a member of the Sweetwater Church of God. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Clay Shelton, Albert Shelton, and Glenn Shelton; two half brothers, Alvin Hensley and Leonard Rice; one grandson, R ichard Farmer; one step-daughter, Sherry Tilson.
Jack William Murray -
Jack William Murray, 89, passed away January 9, 2015 at Bermuda Commons. He was born October 26, 1925 in Unico County Tennessee to Harve and Bess Adkins Murray. Jack was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served in WWII in the South Pacific Theatre. He was the first male to graduate from Rochester School of Practical Nursing and was retired from NC Baptist and Medical Park Hospitals with 25 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Murray. He is survived by son, David C. Murray and wife, Patricia, of Victor, NY, and daughter, Lois Montgomery, and husband, John, of Penn Yan, NY. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren;
