Alma Loraine Godwin -
Alma Loraine Godwin, age 73, 2111 Edge Hill Circle, Johnson City, passed away Monday, September 22, 2014, at her residence. She had lived most of her life in Johnson City and was a daughter of the late Brady and Gladys Blankenship Edwards. Mrs. Godwin retired in 2011 from the James H. Quillen VA Medica l Center after thirty-three years of service. She was a member of Coffee Ridge Baptist Church. Other than her parents, she was preceded by a brother, Floyd Edwards.

Bruce A. King -
Bruce A. King, age 70, of Telford, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at the Johnson City Medical Center with family and friends by his side. He was a native of Erwin and a son of the late Claude and Bonnie Willis King. He was a member of Ninth Street Baptist Church. Bruce worked for Clinchfield/CSX Railroad for 39 years as a conductor and for the last 16 years of his employment he served as the local chairman for the UTU Local 1162. Mr. King was a faithful member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 31 years where he was a sponsor to and helped many people in their sobriety. He was also a member of the United Transportation Union for 47 years. In addition to his parents, Bruce is preceded in death by his wife, Sherry King and brother, Don King.

Geneva Haynes Smith Rutter -
Geneva Haynes Smith Rutter, age 70, 801 Carolina Avenue, Erwin, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2014, in the Franklin Woods Hospital, Johnson City. She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a daughter of Ruth Haynes of Erwin and the late Clinton Haynes. Mrs. Rutter was a former employee of Morrill Motors, and the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital long term where she had worked for twenty-three and one half years as a CNA. She was a member of the Faith Baptist Church.

Lanny K. Lung -
Lanny K. Lung, age 71, of Asheville, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Missions Hospital, Asheville, NC. He was a native of Auburn, Indiana and a son of the late Kenneth M. and Leona Lung. Lanny was a member of the Church of God, Auburn, Indiana. He worked with Morrill Motors as a supervisor for many years until his retirement. Mr. Lung loved spending time with his family.

Kathleen Kenney -
Kathleen Kenney, age 82, of Erwin, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2014 with loved ones by her side. She was a native of Flag Pond and a daughter of the late Carrie Tipton Pate and the late Zeb Pate. Kathleen was a loving housewife and attended Erwin Pentecostal Holiness Church. She loved to garden, tend to her flowers and was a wonderful cook. In addition to her parents Kathleen is preceded in death by her husband, John F. Kenney, sons-in-law, Terry White and Gene Tittle, and brothers, Sam Pate, Jerry Pate and John Royce Pate.

LeRoy Duane Dent -
LeRoy Duane Dent, age 51, 218 North Willow Avenue, Erwin, was fatally injured in a motorcycle accident Friday, September 19, 2014, on the Sciota R oad, Unicoi. He was a native of Marshalltown, Iowa, and had lived in Unicoi County most of his life. Mr. Dent was a son of Dale Dent of Iowa and the late Phyllis May Curry Dent. Other than his mother, he was preceded in death by a son.

Ricky Wayne Tilson -
Ricky Wayne Tilson, age 47, 280 Ralph Edwards Road, Erwin, passed away Friday, September 20, 2014 at his residence. He was the son of Gary and Jud y Tilson of Erwin and was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County. Mr. Tilson was a former employee of Bush Hog where he worked as Supervisor of the assembly. He was a member of the Limestone Cove United Methodist Church.

LeRoy Duane Dent -
LeRoy Duane Dent, age 51, 218 North Willow Avenue, Erwin, was fatally injured in a motorcycle accident Friday, September 19, 2014, on the Sciota Road, Unicoi. He was a native of Marshalltown, Iowa, and had lived in Unicoi County most of his life. Mr. Dent was a son of Dale Dent of Iowa and the late Phy llis May Curry Dent. Other than his mother, he was preceded in death by a son.

Marjorie Thomas Erwin -
Marjorie Thomas Erwin age 88 of Kingsport passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday morning September 16, 2014.

Mark Timothy “Tim” Masters -
Mark Timothy “Tim” Masters, age 59, passed away September 16, 2014, at home. He was born in Erwin, TN and the son of the late Loyd and Myrtle Masters.

Mavis Gale Williams -
Mavis Gale Williams, age 93, 2054 Highway 352, Flag Pond, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2014, in the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital. She w as the daughter of the late James Anderson Shelton and Muncie Shelton. Mrs. Williams had lived most of her life in Unicoi County. She graduated from Asheville Normal Teachers College with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Mrs. Williams retired from the Unicoi County School System after teaching for nineteen years. Mrs. Williams taught at Sweetwater, Rocky Fork, Flag Pond and Temple Hill Schools. She was a former employee of Southern Pottery. Mrs. Williams was a gifted weaver and loved to teach weaving. She was a member of the Sweetwater Church of God. Other than her parents, Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband, Bud J. Williams; five brothers and two sisters.

Blanche “Granny” Hensley -
Blanche “Granny” Hensley, age 79, of Erwin, passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native of Madison County, NC and a daughter of the late Bulah and Stella Shelton Johnson. Blanche was a member of Lower Higgins Creek Church of God. She loved to fish, tend to her flower garden, go yard selling and loved her grandbabies. Mrs. Hensley was a loving homemaker. In addition to her parents, Blanche is preceded in death by her husband, James Madison Hensley, infant daughter, Elouise Hensley, grandchild, Jonathan Hensley, great grandchild, Jonathan Michael Shelton, sisters, Vooney Shelton, Mami Sue Thomas, Bess Cantrell, Deli Shelton and brothers, Blaine Johnson, Deston Johnson and Manely Johnson.

Lora Leona Harris -
Lora Leona Harris, age 92, of Erwin, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2014. She was born in Erwin and was a daughter of Norman and Rosie Houston Edwards. Lora was a cook for the former Goobers’ Restaurant and retired from Texas Instruments. She loved to garden and work with her flowers.

Priscilla R. Urner -
Priscilla R. Urner, age 96, passed away Tuesday morning, September 9, 2014, at home with family in Erwin, TN. She was born in the Jamaica Plain area of Boston, Massachusetts to the late Arthur R. and Ernestine B. Rabethge.

Clyde Pardue, Jr -
Clyde Pardue, Jr, age 85, of Erwin, passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Born on December 2, 1928 in Unicoi County, he was a son of the late Clyde Sr. and Zella Mae Tittle Pardue. Clyde had worked as a butcher at the former O. L. Huff, the former A. R, Browns and the former Smith’s Market. He later worked at Nuclear Fuel Services, where he retired as a supervisor.

Daisy Bell Chandler -
Daisy Bell Chandler, age 94, North Buffalo Street, Erwin, passed away Monday, September 8, 2014, in the Center on aging & Health. She was a lifel ong resident of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Albert and Tiny Berry Thompson. Mrs. Chandler was a homemaker. She was a member of the Southside Freewill Baptist Church. Other than her parents Mrs. Chandler was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Chandler in 1989; a grandson, Denny Chandler in 2006; one brother and two sisters.
