‘Badge’ battle tops drive quotaA successful Erwin Community Blood Drive was held Friday, Sept. 9, in the fellowship hall at First Christian Church. The quota for the drive was 40 productive units of blood. Fifty-eight people applied to donate and 42 productive units of blood were collected. There were six first-time donors.

This was a Battle of the Badges drive: each donor voted for their favorite first responder to honor them. The Unicoi County Sheriff’s Department won this vote, and the Erwin Police Department came in a close second, with only a two-vote difference.
Norman Brown won the drawing for dinner for two at Toby’s Cafe.
Grace United Methodist Church furnished the food for the canteen for this drive as a service to the community.
The next Erwin Community Blood Drive will be held Friday, Nov. 11, at First Christian Church fellowship Hall, 312 S. Main Ave., from 12:30-5:30 p.m.
